App navigation: Governance → Exception
The Exception module tracks formal policy exceptions – cases where a business unit or individual cannot comply with a policy and needs an approved deviation with a documented justification.
Screen Layout #
Navigate to Governance → Exception to open the Exception Inventory screen. The toolbar provides Refresh, Filter, + Create, and a Bulk menu for batch operations.

Creating an Exception #
- Select + on the toolbar.
- The Exception Detail wizard opens. Complete the following fields:
- Title – a short name for the exception.
- Priority – the urgency or severity level of the exception.
- Source Type – the category of the source (e.g., Policy, Control).
- Source – the specific policy or item being excepted.
- Short Description – a concise explanation of the exception.
- Justification – the business reason the exception is needed.
- Valid From / Valid To – the date range for which the exception is approved.

Exception Lifecycle #
Exceptions follow the same Draft → Under Review → Awaiting Approval → Active lifecycle as policies. Once the Valid To date passes, the exception should be reviewed for renewal or closure.
Bulk Operations #
Use the Bulk menu to apply review or approval decisions to multiple exceptions at once – useful for periodic exception review cycles.
Note: The GRC Executive Dashboard’s Exception Trends chart (Compliance Management section) shows exception volume over time. A rising trend is a signal to review your policy compliance posture.
